DIFFICULT REQUEST DEMANDS DIFFICULT ATTENTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

2 KINGS 2:1-15

Sometimes in life we make demands from God, which we are not yet qualified to handle, but forgetting that God is not a magician. His miracle is limited to your needs, not your ambition. Your ambition or goal demands hard work. And you have worked hard and attained the prime of your request. This is where grace comes in “God said “I will prosper the work of your hand, not the fruit your lips. So when you asked God to bless you with a house and you don’t do what it takes to build the house, you cannot own a house.  But you can simply own house when you make effort towards a business that will earn you the desired amount to buy a land and build a house. But when you have the money to build the house but no land, this is where God can come in to help by directing you on what to do through the Holy Ghost as well as creating avenue or connection to get a land at cheaper rate. This is called favor.

And you don’t just start building without counting the cost, to be able to meet up with what is at hand. So God can favour your handwork to produce result. Not your idle talk of request in this context. Elisha asked Elijah for a double portion of his anointing which Elijah said, you have asked for a difficult thing and then for the difficult thing to be accomplished. Elijah demands a responsibility which is a requirement for His request.

2 KINGS 2:9

(9)       “As soon as they had gone across Elijah said to Elisha “Ask

            What you want me to do for you before I am taken from

            From you: so Elisha said: please may I receive a double

            Portion of your spirit?

(10)     He replied “ you have asked a difficult thing, if you see

            Me when I am taken from you, it will happen for you

            That way; but if you do not it will not happen”

In the same way, God sometime requires you to play your part in that your big request with the wisdom given to you. So that He can step in and perform wonders. He has answered your request but your responsibility is demanded through discipline and hard work. When God wanted to save Noah from the early destruction of the world with flood, God demanded Noah’s Hard work and discipline to build a castle, which He did in pain. And people were calling him names. In the same way, God has already made grace available.

Did Elisha finally meet up with the basic requirement? Yes, he did met up with the requirement, He finally saw Elijah ascending to heaven with chariots of fire. And immediately receive the mantle of his master.

2 KINGS 2:15

(15)     “When the sons of the Prophets at Jericho

saw him from a distance, they said :

“the spirit of Elijah has settled down

On Elisha. So they went to meet him

And bowed to the ground before him

When God promotes you in life, people will acknowledge the promotion without your notice, why? Because the blessing of God is not secret, it manifest for people to see, and it is very attractive. So let us acknowledge our responsibility and discipline towards our request rather than blaming God for an unanswered request or petition.
